Hi. I’m Loretta Zortman — owner of Mockingbird Bay Resort. Our small family resort sits on the edge of beautiful Norfork Lake in northern Arkansas. We have 8 cabins, a dock, and pontoon and fishing boats to rent. Life on a resort can be a kick! I’m blessed with the greatest family. Frank, my DH (“dear husband”), is awesome. He wears all the hats of the resort — finance manager, landscaper, boat mechanic, electrician, plumber, computer analyst, website designer, security…the list is never-ending, and he performs each job with his whole heart.
We love our kids! Lianna is 19, and Valory is 17. We are so sad to say that Lucas passed away at the age of 26 this past September.
Our miniature pinscher is named Boschey — ssshhhh, he thinks he’s a full-sized Dobie. We still have Smokey, our wild New Jersey calico cat. And we were adopted by a stray, named “Brix”–aptly named since we always said the next time we mention getting another pet, just hit us upside the head with a BRICK. (The next pet we get will be named “Bullets”!)
I’m so thankful to have my parents and my uncle living here too, as well as Frank’s father, who also lives in town. This is a beautiful area we call God’s Country – we are so extremely fortunate.
I am a resort owner; and thanks to lots of practice — a toilet detailing pro;
A Christian — searching for meaning to my life through Jesus;
A medical transcriptionist — Zortman Medical Transcription/Radiology is my forte;
A lampwork bead maker — melting colored glass with a torch, winding hot glass on mandrels, adding frit, and annealing with a kiln;
An all-natural soap maker — cold-process soap with lye and oils;
A quilt-maker — watercolor impressionist wallhangings are my favorite;
A comedian, minus the stage (and the audience);
A wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend…

Great reading. I wonder how you find the time to keep up with all of the hobbies you do and run 2 successful businesses and bring up 2 great kids as well, do you ever sleep?
Where the heck are the waves Loretta? How can I play beach blanket bingo with the rest of our surfing friends if there are no waves. No more wicked volleyball games, no more movie nights, what’s up with that? Love Ya, Jack & Judy Slusser

Come to Arkansas, man! Ya, we don’t have waves unless we use the wakeboard boat, but waves CAN be made. Volleyball, not so much… Movies, yes! It’d be fun!

I don’t know if you remember me, but I first spoke to you about 7 years ago(?) through our mutual friend, Tracy Flores. You had transcribed for Dr. Powers, I believe, and I had worked for him for many, many years prior.
Tracy emailed me the link to your blog and I read about your 9-11 story. I remember you telling me briefly about it on the phone. I have thought of you and your husband through the years, and how your life changed so much after that. Yes, the Lord truly works in mysterious ways and I am so glad you give him the glory!!
Just wanted to drop a line and say hello. I hope everything is going well for you and yours – sounds like it. As for me, life continues to fly by. Our two girls are now 15 1/2 and nearly 13. We will be married 20 years next week. Life is good and we are blessed. Yes, I still am transcribing, which I probably will do until my 90s!! (ha ha, sure hope not!).
